beginning around the year

1969

Sewing sleeping bags to order has a long tradition in the city of Liberec for almost 50 years.

In the 1970s, when tourist equipment was not readily available, Mrs. Jana Červenková started sewing sleeping bags for herself and her friends.

Over time, however, it was no longer just "sewing for friends" and Mrs. Jana Červenková.

In 1990, under her skillful hands, the Alka company was established, which was characterized by high quality sewn products and a friendly, individual approach to customers.

2016

For 26 years, she sewed beautiful sleeping bags according to the ideas of her customers.

In 2016, however, Alka's time was up and Ms. Červenková decided to end her activities. Eva Hrstková, who was a mother on parental leave at the time, noticed this, and it was then that she thought of continuing to sew sleeping bags. That same year, she bought her know-how from Mrs. Červenková and together they sewed the last and at the same time the first sleeping bag, and since then our brand KWAK has existed, which, like a mythical Phoenix, was born from the ashes of a defunct company.

2017

With the generous help of the family, a small workshop was created in the attic of the family house.

There was just enough room for a table and a new industrial sewing machine, and then the sewing could begin. At first, we sewed test prototypes and tried new cuts, experience and customers gradually increased, and production slowly began to take off. The time has come to innovate the materials, we have replaced the originally used Pertex Classic with Pertex Endurance and Pertex Quantum fabrics, which are better suited for sleeping bags due to their properties. The outer fabric is more durable and the inner fabric, on the other hand, is softer and more pleasant to the touch.

2018

The months passed and 2018 came, which for us was mainly about the promotion of our sleeping bags. On 14 April 2018, we took part in the first public event, namely the Juch festival at the Technical University in Liberec.

Thanks to the festival, we were soon approached by Mrs. Lucie Fürstová from Czech Radio Liberec, who invited Eva Hrstková to the radio and then gave an interview about her business as part of the series "More from inspiring stories".

We almost felt like media stars on 12/10/2018, when Eva Hrstková was invited for an interview on the Czech Radio program "Dopoledne s Dvojkou", where she also told her story about the creation of the KWAK brand.

All these "events" felt like good advertising, and so things went like clockwork. But the fabric was running out and it turned out that it was not so easy to find a new one. Fortunately, however, we discovered the company Nanomembrane, whose substances exactly met our requirements, and that is why we became their regular customer in November 2018.

2019

A year of big and even bigger changes.

On January 18, 2019, Eva Hrstková was approached by David Parízek, who wanted to tailor a sleeping bag. Word got around and it didn't end with just one sleeping bag. Their meeting revealed a common interest in developing new things and breaking the boundaries of the achievable. And it was here that future cooperation and joint business was born. From February 9, 2019, the new KWAK logo appears on sleeping bags and other feather products, and from that moment on, Eva and David appear as business partners.

The meeting with David Pařízek set the carousel of changes and development in high gear.

The small workshop in the attic turned out to be really small, and it was necessary to look for a new and bigger one. This was soon achieved, and since April 2019 we have been based in a new workshop in Vratislavice nad Nisou, which can comfortably fit more than just one sewing machine.

The introduction of the KWAK logo went into full swing. Production of new business cards, flyers, flags, stickers, brochures and other marketing materials and aids.

In April 2019, we were very happy to participate in the Juch festival for the second time. At that time, there were already so many orders that it was necessary to find reinforcements for the team. And that happened to be a lady from Liberec, a great seamstress, who already at that time started a small business, which was focused on quilting strollers so that they would still be useful, and for which Eva Hrstková got a tip from the master of textile production Mr. Baumrukrová. A lovely seamstress with an offer to sew feather products was tempted and we are very happy that she has been with us since May 2019.

And since the demand for new feather products continued to grow, from the spring of 2019 we also started sewing other products than just sleeping bags. Among our products, we have included feather skirts, vests, gloves, slippers, children's beanies and others, and all of this, in other words, than tailor-made, exactly according to the wishes of customers.

We were allocated a subsidy of CZK 250,000 from the Subsidy Fund of the Liberec Region for a period of one year, support area: Regional development, program no. 2.2: Regional innovation program, subsidy title 3: Technological vouchers, project: Prototype winter down jacket KWAK V1.0 .

Our cooperation with TUL Liberec Faculty of Textiles.

The fabric and its structure is tested at the Faculty of Textiles in Liberec. Here are the electron microscope photos.

We researched all our fabrics and the individual composition, structure, formatting of individual fibers. Stretchability and RipStop of all our fabrics (nylon-polyamide). The number of fibers and its density and other fabric segments.

2020

The very beginning of 2020 brought another shift, from

01/01/2020 we have an exclusivity on fabric with nanomembrane brand Nanomembrane for the segment of all down products.

One machine, although good, could no longer handle everything and new friends had to be acquired. Two more Jack industrial sewing machines have also been added to the workshop, and they won't be resting anytime soon. New reinforcements could arrive.

We certified the Kuňka sleeping bag and the Skokan sleeping bag and the Rosnička sleeping bag according to the EN ISO 23537-1 standard in the state testing laboratory of TZU Brno.

For the year 2020, we were allocated a subsidy of CZK 200,000 from the Subsidy Fund of the Liberec Region for a period of one year, support area: Regional development, program no. 2.2: Regional innovation program, subsidy title 3: Technological vouchers, project: Prototype KWAK V1 bivouac bag .0.

On May 14, 2020, we launched a new B2B and B2C e-shop and will gradually add new products and services to it. Of course, the products will also be manufactured with applied nanotechnology.
